Breakthrough 1

Breakthrough #4: Early detection of heart problems

At the Royal Brompton Hospital, our foetal cardiologists are internationally recognised as experts in diagnosing structural heart abnormalities. Our research has led to the development of techniques to diagnose heart problems in the first trimester of pregnancy. Scanning at 13 weeks is available for pregnancies that are seen as high-risk and we have a dedicated foetal clinic.

Breakthrough 4

New therapies for difficult asthma

We’re aiming to improve the understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the disease so that we can develop new therapies and medicines to help patients suffering from the most severe cases of asthma.

Breakthrough 2

Breakthrough #2: Gene sequencing

We're using the latest equipment to use gene sequencing  for research into genetic and genomic links to heart and lung disease
