Mishal Husain chaired and hosted a very special evening for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity recently. With insight and professionalism, Ms Husain drew out from our three top clinicians what life has been like over the last five months and a glimpse into the future.

Her three interviewees were Professor Susanna Price, Ms Lorraine Campbell and Dr Brij Patel. Between them their experiences and skills covered intensive care, ground-breaking research and the extraordinary logistics and steely decisions which led to Royal Brompton Hospital treating and caring for some of the most poorly Covid-19 patients during the height of the pandemic - and indeed continuing to do so after the main noise had decreased.

Inspired by Trustee Helen Putter, the event was a fascinating journey from early planning in February, through adaptations to working lives and hospital layouts which would normally having taken weeks and months, through to just what it was which saved so many lives. We learned more about ECMO, about resilience, and about planning and preparing for the future. Thanks to the wonders of Zoom, we welcomed donors to our Charity from all over the world.

Such was the success of the evening, I am sure we will embark on a similar venture in the autumn. Watch out for website items and our eNewsletters. If you don't receive our e-newsletters, please go to our website and sign up. It is a great pleasure to stay in touch with our loyal friends, supporters, volunteers and donors as communication has become even more important and vital during these strange times.

The fundraising team at Charity HQ are undaunted by the current climate which prevents them from hosting events, spurring on our fundraisers who would otherwise be taking part in challenge events and meeting and speaking to supporters as they call by our hub and our office when they would normally come to the hospitals.

The team is organising a new venture called Team Heart vs Team Lungs to take place in September. Please take a look - it would be great if you could join us.
