Our seventh Golf Day at the wonderful Denham Golf Club was even better than in previous years. Led by the wonderful Shakin’ Stevens and Harefield consultant, Miles Dalby, it was a super day for the golfers and fun for those of us who joined in the evening (I am not a golfer but looking at the grins on the faces of the returning competitors made me realise I was missing something!).

Huge thanks to Martin Baker for sponsoring the day and the dinner and thank you to everyone who gave auction and raffle prizes. This year, for the first time, the regular teams were joined by lady golfers which is a great addition to the day and I gather that is going to grow. Particular thanks must go to Dr Richard Grocott-Mason who is Medical Director of Royal Brompton & Harefield Foundation Trust and eyewateringly busy, but he still found time to come and join our fundraising day which raised well over £20k to buy another Organ Care System for Harefield. So, play a round of golf – give of your time and your financial support too, and know you are saving a life….. thank you to everyone and well done, especially to our very own Harefield fundraiser, Sallinder Rai ably assisted by Raf Notarianni.

We have a very special donor visiting our hospital next week. She is on a mission to get people to help themselves and their own health by walking – and she is indeed a living example of determination and drive.  Kate Hedges has been a fantastic supporter of Royal Brompton where she was treated for very severe cancer.  She is now coming in to find out about all the huge range of other ways of caring for our patients here through therapies – physical and mental.  People are often in our hospitals for some days, weeks and even longer, so caring for the whole person and not just the purely medical side is a vital part of what makes these two hospitals so special.  Kate is on a mission – read more about this very special person here.
