In January 2020, I developed severe endocarditis, which resulted in a srious infection of the heart. As a result, I required reconstructive heart surgery, a highly complex 14-hour major heart operation carried out by an amazing team of surgeons at the Hospital. Harefield Hospital is a world leading heart & lung hospital, one of very few places capable of such life-saving operations. I remained a patient at Harefield Hospital for three months, during which time my admiration for the place grew day by day. By the grace of God and the excellent care, support, and dedication of all staff at the Hospital, I am fortunate to have fully recovered. I cannot thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the hospital enough for the care they showed to me as a patient and also to my family who visited regularly. By the time I left hospital in April 2020, the country was in lockdown and hospitals were overwhelmed with the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, despite the challenges, they did not waver in their commitment to their patients; this was truly inspiring for all to see.

The Lions Clubs of Kingsbury, Hendon, Kenton, Sudbury, Hatch End and Birmingham Handsworth, Pranasha, & Asian Foundation for Help, have joined hands with our Hathi Family for fundraising events for medical equipment at Harefield Hospital.

June- July 2021. Walk 10,000 Miles for Harefield;
People join from all over to collectively walk at least 10,000 miles (anywhere and anytime) in June & July 2021 with a Walk in Stanmore Country Park on 4th July 2021 (Optional) and a RBH London Bridges Walk on 25th July (Optional) which explores world-famous sights around London, covering 6 miles and crossing 6 iconic bridges (Fees apply).

All the above events are now successfully completed and we have raised around £49,000 as at 18/02/2022.

It is hoped that the money will be spent in procuring an Echo unit taken on transplant retrievals to assess the donor’s heart and to check if its viable for retrieval and can be used for transplant.

All fundraising events were sponsored by the Hathi family and all the donations have gone directly to Harefield Hospital.

Thanks to all for tremendous support in this fund raising endeavour. Naren Hathi
