On Monday 19 July, Alfonso and his team at St James Restaurant in Bushey warmly welcomed 50 guests lucky enough to secure a place at our first ever afternoon tea.

Many of those attending were long term supporters and volunteers, who were keen to reconnect over a cup of tea after a long period of isolation. Our guests were spoiled for choice as the St James staff brought out stacks of finger sandwiches, scones, and dozens of small cakes.

Strictly Come Dancing singer, Lance Ellington, stopped by to entertain our guests with some big band swing classics. Nick Einhorn sprinkled some magic on the event with mind-blowing tricks. The audience could not believe their eyes when he made a bottle of prosecco disappear inside a balloon and poured milk from a closed Coca-Cola can.

Those with winning raffle tickets took home some brilliant prizes including a Clarins gift set, a Burt’s Bees gift set, a bottle of prosecco and a signed Dishoom cookbook.

Gill Johns, a dedicated supporter of the Charity said: “We’ve had a great afternoon, loved the magician and Lance Ellington. Thank you for organising.”

Our thanks go out to Alfonso and St James Restaurant for hosting this event and laying on such a wonderful spread. Thanks also to our wonderful supporter, Rhonda, for her assistance in helping to make this event a success.

All the funds raised will go towards our Covid-19 Relief Fund and help us to support our hospitals as they recover from the pandemic.
