After two years of tireless fundraising by our generous supporters, we are thrilled to announce that we have now sailed passed our target of £1.1 million for the redevelopment of Harefield’s Intensive Care Unit and Scanner Centre

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundraisers, six new bedrooms will treat an additional 250 critically ill patients each year, and ensure the utmost level of infection control. The redevelopment will also provide a new imaging centre, boasting two CT scanners and an MRI scanner, and give patients access to a sunshine therapy terrace, the benefits of which are known to aid recovery.

A huge testament

Richard Grocott-Mason, Medical Director for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said of the achievement: “It is a huge testament to all the Charity’s generous supporters that even before the diggers have left the site, the target of £1.1 million has been reached – surpassed even! This money will enable us to provide our most critically ill patients with the best possible care and equipment, and treat thousands more vulnerable patients for years to come.”

He added: “Thank you to everyone who has fundraised in their community, sponsored a brick, attended a fundraising event or simply bought a Charity t-shirt in aid of this transformative project.”

So rewarding

Gill Raikes, our Chief Executive, said: “We are thrilled to have been part of this ambition to rebuild the Intensive Care Unit and Scanner Centre at Harefield. It is so rewarding for the team – as well as our donors and fundraisers, of course – to see the Charity play a key role in providing the very best facilities and equipment for our patients.  But we never stand still – we are on to our next projects to support these two world-class hospitals.”

The unit will officially open in the autumn.
