We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear that Andrew Whitby, one of our most passionate advocates and a great friend to the Charity, passed away on Saturday.

Andrew received a life-saving heart and lung transplant at Harefield Hospital more than 32 years ago, which made him the world's longest-surviving recipient of this type of transplantation. Andrew went on to become a familiar friendly face throughout both Harefield Hospital and Royal Brompton, and he hardly ever missed a fundraising event in aid of our Charity and the work it supports. In March, Andrew was one of the very first to sign up to our protest march against plans to close congenital heart disease services, which had helped him as a young boy. He was so very eager to give back to the hospitals that helped him and, for that, we will be forever grateful.
