A fond farewell to Gill

This April we said a fond farewell to Gill Raikes who retired as Chief Executive.

Gill led Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity for nearly nine years. It was an incredible time with Gill at the helm, which saw the Charity purchase a new scanner for each hospital, new ECMO machines, support our courageous NHS staff during the Covid-19 pandemic and hold many events, large and small, to raise funds for the hospitals.

A warm welcome to Richard

Taking over as Chief Executive will be Richard Bowyer.

Richard comes to the Charity from Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity where he was Director of Marketing & Public Fundraising. Before that, he was Head of Global Brand Strategy at BT. Richard will bring many years of marketing and fundraising experience to his new role as chief executive, which will be an enormous boost to the Charity.

Richard said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity at a time when the NHS has never been more needed, and the support of its charities has never been more vital. Under Gill’s leadership the team have built a thriving charity and I am looking forward to working with them on the next stage of their journey.”

Everyone at the Charity wishes Gill all the best for her retirement. Her future plans include moving to the Welsh borders.

Gill Raikes said: “My time at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity has been an incredible privilege. Seeing the power that fundraising can achieve, and the differences to people’s lives, is very moving. I am very pleased that Richard will be taking over the running of the Charity. He has many years of experience in fundraising, research, brand and marketing, which will help the Charity go further in supporting our patients and staff at both our hospitals.”

Please join us in giving Richard a very warm welcome to the Charity.
