On 16th July 2017 I will be trembling at the top of the Arcelormittal Orbit, a massive red sculpture in the Olympic park. I will be completing the UK’s highest freefall abseil, on the UK’s tallest sculpture, at 262 feet above the city.

Although I am very nervous, I have set myself this challenge after witnessing the incredible care and treatment that my boyfriend Jacob received in the Royal Brompton Hospital. Jacob was born with a congenital heart condition, which required him to have multiple open heart surgeries, all of which have taken place at the Brompton. In October 2016 Jacob was transferred to the Brompton after Brighton Hospital diagnosed him with endocarditis, an infection in the heart. This resulted in a long 10 week stay, lots of antibiotics and another operation to replace a valve in his heart. All of the staff involved in Jacob's care were fantastic, kind and knowledgeable.

There are many great hospitals around the country, but what makes the Brompton special is that they are a specialist in the field of cardiology. The Brompton has more than 1,600 staff, five operating theatres and four catheter laboratories. It has 334 beds used for intensive care, respiratory, cardiology, paediatric and paediatric intensive care patients.
Royal Brompton is also home to Europe's largest adult congenital heart disease unit.

After witnessing the amazing work that the Brompton does every day, I felt the least I could do would be to challenge myself to dangle over London to try to raise some money for them!

Please, please donate anything you can to this wonderful charity so that they can continue their wonderful work for all those who need it the most. Emilie Myles
