Beth Skelding My Grandad was a force to be reckoned with, surviving a heart attack when he was 29 and subsequently having a defibrillator and pace maker fitted to help regulate his heart activity. I was only 12 when he died, but I remember him for being such a positive, funny and supportive person to be around. I never heard him complain despite his debilitating condition and the struggles he faced everyday. Tragically, he was very ill by the time he was given a heart transplant and we lost him a few weeks after it took place on the 13th October 2005. This race day, taking place on 13 October 2019 therefore has huge significance for both me and my family and I hope to do him proud.

All money raised through my page will go to improving the Organs Care System, which helps keep the heart functioning outside the human body for up to 4 times longer than traditional methods used. This means that donated organs can come from hospitals further away, arrive in better condition and give medical staff longer to prepare for and perform surgery so that success rates are as high as possible.

Miss you Grandad xx Beth Skelding
