My aunt, Desi, had a heart transplant 33 years ago and earlier this year sadly passed away in Harefield hospital. She struggled with her health for a long time beforehand until her body decided it was too much. The average life expectancy after a heart transplant is 14 years (NHS, 2021) so to have doubled that is incredible. My aunt was such a strong woman and I aspire all her courage and bravery. I am choosing to do this firewalk in her memory to raise money for the hospital because I know they took such great care of her and I want to show my gratitude for all they did for her and give back if it means someone else can benefit like she did. This means a lot to me and I know she would be proud. Emily Ketteringham
