On the 2nd October, my Dad was admitted to Charing Cross hospital with a fungal infection in the lung. Quickly he was moved into the Intensive Care Unit as he wasn't coping well in the wards. After a few weeks in Charing Cross, he was moved to the Royal Brompton Hospital, the specialist hospital for heart and lungs.
Sadly, his condition worsened, and after a month in The Royal Brompton and the hard work of so many staff at the hospital, it was understood that my Dad wasn't going to ever recover from this illness, as the infection had developed into cavitary pneumonia. With the respect of my Dad always as the top priority of the consultants and nurses, it was decided that the most humane thing to do was to allow him to pass away peacefully.

I have set up this fundraising page as a recognition of the hard work that the staff at The Royal Brompton Hospital carried out not only for my Dad, but the continued efforts that they carry out 24 hours a day. The funds will go directly to the ITU where my Dad was treated with such care and compassion, as were we as a family.

I will be running the Solihull Half Marathon on the 7th April 2019 in the hope to raise as much money as possible for this incredible ward. They carry out life saving work everyday which goes unnoticed, so I will be running the half marathon as my recognition of their amazing work. Sophie Fowler
