In 2009 I was diagnosed with mild Aortic Stenosis and after nearly 10 years of annual echocardiograms at my local hospital (St Helier, Carshalton) I was referred to the Brompton in December 2018 when it became severe. Things happened pretty quickly after that. After 2 Angiograms and other tests, I had open heart surgery to have the valve replaced on Feb 12th 2019. I have to say that The Brompton is an amazing specialist hospital and the way the teams at St Helier and the Brompton work together is impressive.

My recovery and re-hab went so well that I have decided to do the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 13th 2019 in London. I have completed the Couch to 5k programme (which gets you running 5k, 3x per week) and am upping my training. The last half marathon I did was in the 80s!

This fundraiser my thank you to the Brompton and to all the staff involved in my care. To John Foran's cardiology team which sits across the Brompton, St Helier and probably other Hospitals in the South of England. Also to Cesare Quarto's surgery team at the Royal Brompton.
