Happy birthday NHS and a big thank you to our amazing staff Yesterday was the 72nd birthday of the NHS and people across the country came back onto their doorsteps to applaud our nation’s hardworking clinical staff who have been on the frontline of the Covid-19 outbreak. To mark the occasion the entrance to Royal Brompton Hospital was illuminated by a projection of two hands clapping. The video installation called #IClapfor also contains a message of happy birthday and thanks to the NHS. It was created by artist Ian Berry. Ian said: “In this time we've seen who are the people who we should listen to and look up to, who children should aspire to be like, and that's people in the NHS.” The projection was organised by Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity and rb&hArts to mark the 72nd birthday of the NHS and to say thank you to all our amazing clinical staff for the brave work they have done and continue to do during the Covid-19 crisis. Karen Janody, director of rb&hArts said: "It was such a privilege to help Ian Berry project #IClapfor on the front of Royal Brompton. The clapping hands will forever be remembered as the way people would say thank you to the NHS and key workers, so it made the most fantastic birthday gift to the NHS and also all the staff at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals who have worked tirelessly during Covid-19." Ian has taken his #IClapfor installation on the road and has been projecting his message of thanks on landmarks from Land's End to John o' Groats. “I really want to let people know, who are still fighting this, that people still do care. And that when the clapping stops, the care continues,” Ian said.
