Harefield Carols by Candlelight raises over £1,400 for Harefield Hospital

News Release

On a glowing winter evening, St Mary’s Church in Harefield was once again filled with candlelight, music and hope as the Harefield community came together for Harefield Carols by Candlelight 2025. This much-loved annual concert was a heartfelt celebration of Christmas – and of the difference your generosity makes for people living with heart and lung disease.

The evening was also attended by Past Mayor Cllr Colleen Sullivan, alongside patients, supporters, hospital staff and the wider Harefield community, united by a shared purpose: to give the gift of hope at Christmas, helping people spend more precious time with the ones they love.

The air was lifted by beautiful singing from St Mary’s Choir, Harefield School, Harefield Junior School Choir and our inspiring patient choir, Singing for Breathing. Their performances brought moments of joy, reflection and togetherness, reminding us of the strength that comes from community – especially during challenging times.

A touching and uplifting moment came with On the Thirteenth Day of Christmas my true love phoned me up, read by Steve Pursey, patient and supporter, bringing warmth and humanity to the evening.

The evening also included readings shared by people with close onnections to Harefield Hospital and the local community. Together, these voices told a powerful story of care, resilience and compassion; echoing the experiences of so many people whose lives have been touched by the Hospital.

Our evening was made extra special thanks to the kind donation of mince pies and mulled wine. A huge thank you to Tesco (Gerrards Cross), Tesco (Rickmansworth) and Morrisons (Pinner), as well as other generous local supporters, our biggest thanks go to the kindness of everyone who attended, volunteered, sang, read and donated. Together we raised over £1,400 to fund pioneering treatment, vital equipment and research that gives patients hope for the future and transforms lives of heart and lung patients.
