Harefield Hospital Nursery Transformed Through Corporate Gift

A collaboration between Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity, Jarvis Build and Harefield Hospital has led to the transformation of the hospital's nursery thanks to a gift in kind

News Release

17 September 2025

A generous gift in kind from Jarvis Build has breathed new life into previously unused rooms at Harefield Hospital Nursery. The transformative work was made possible through a collaboration between Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity, Harefield Hospital and the construction specialists. The partnership brought together a shared vision to revitalise the nursery and support the wellbeing of NHS staff and their families.

As leaders in construction and infrastructure, Jarvis Build were drawn to the project due to its alignment with their values – particularly their commitment to supporting lung health. Having seen first-hand the negative impact of environmental factors like dust and damp on work sites, the team was eager to create a healthier, more inspiring environment for children to thrive.

The nursery had two rooms and a kitchen that were completely unusable and had turned into neglected storage spaces. Their vision was to renovate these spaces and create a bright, welcoming and engaging environment for everyone to enjoy.

Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity contributed to the project by funding new storage facilities so the works could take place. The renovation would have cost Harefield Hospital thousands of pounds in materials, furnishings and professional services, but Jarvis Build’s generosity meant the works were carried out for free.

Nestled in the grounds of the hospital, the nursery is recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding and provides excellent care to the children of hospital staff and the local community.  Following the renovations, the nursery has transformed once unusable spaces into stimulating play spaces and is enjoying the difference it’s made to the children.

The nursery is a vital for staff at Harefield Hospital, providing excellent and convenient onsite childcare and boosting staff retention. This expansion means the nursery now has the opportunity to expand further, welcoming more families and supporting additional staff.

Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity Fundraising Director, Catherine Sykes, reflected: “This has been an amazing project to see come to life. Initially, Jarvis Build wanted to volunteer with us, but their passion and enthusiasm for our work led us to a much larger project where they have made a real, tangible impact.”

Shane Jarvis, Managing Director of Jarvis Build commented: “When we connected with Harefield, it was clear that their work – and their people – deserved our full support. Contributing our time, materials and skills to this project is a small way to say thank you, and to show how much we value the people who keep our communities healthy. This project has a direct impact on patient care: when staff have reliable childcare on site, they can focus fully on what they do best – saving lives and supporting families.”
