Small things, big difference
It’s often the little things that can make the biggest difference. That’s why our patients’ fund exists – to find small but meaningful ways to make being at hospital a little easier.
Funded by generosity
Supported entirely by donations, the Fund pays for thoughtful extras the NHS can’t cover. It’s our way of making hospital life feel less clinical, calmer and more comfortable for patients during long or difficult stays.
How it works
Hospital staff apply for grants to bring small but meaningful ideas to life – things that ease stress, pass the time or simply offer comfort. It’s all about making long stays and tough treatments that little bit more manageable. Here are a few examples:
- Chair beds so a relative can stay overnight
- TVs to pass the time during long treatment
- iPads to distract children during procedures
- Small portable fans to keep long term patients cool
- Programmes to reduce night-time noise and aid sleep
- Art supplies to help patients relax
Help us keep it going
The thoughtful touches provided by the Patients’ Fund make all the difference during difficult times. We can only fund them with your help though. Even your small change can make a big difference to a patient and their family.

“The iPad provided by the Fund really helps focus Esmee’s attention on something positive – it’s a great distraction for her.”
