Well here we are just a few weeks away after what has been a very long training schedule due to COVID-19!!!!! The LLHM has been cancelled 3 times so far..... Ian is still receiving ongoing treatment from the wonderful team at The Royal Brompton and is awaiting another operation. The hospital need the funds now more than ever so please please donate if you can - every penny is hugely appreciated and will go to help others like my brother who without the Brompton the world would be a very different place. Read below to see what made us undertake this challenge......

August 2019

As some of you know my younger brother was suddenly admitted to hospital at the beginning of this year. To cut a very long story short he was diagnosed with a very rare congenital heart condition. After much investigation by the amazing team at the Royal Brompton it was discovered he needed a very complex open heart surgery procedure.

That surgery took place last week. Ian is still in hospital.

Being at the hospital pretty much every day and having seen first hand what truly incredible work they do for babies, children and adults, as a family we feel we need to give something back to The Royal Brompton and Harefield Charity.

We had no idea such specialist work gets minimal funding from the NHS and relies massively on fundraising and support of people like us.

We will be eternally grateful to our wonderful NHS but most importantly the surgeon and amazing team of nurses who saved Ian’s life. Ian spent time in intensive care and they have quite literally had my brothers life in their hands and performed nothing short of a miracle.

Ian has been a warrior and after only a very short time he has been moved to the high dependency unit which it where he is today.

Every single person that we have been in contact with have been professional, caring and compassionate.

We will be eternally grateful to everyone involved in getting Ian to this stage and beyond.

It is our plan to raise as much money for them as we can to help enable them to continue saving lives on a daily basis.

Those of you who know me know I hate running but we have signed up to London landmarks half marathon. We are also organising a charity Quingo, Bake off, Walk and other events to raise money. Please look out for details of these events as we would love you to join us.

As Ian’s condition is extremely rare he is keen for the money raised to go towards the research into rare heart conditions and other areas of the hospital that without funding simply couldn’t operate. Rachel Staggs
