We had a super event recently with author Bill Bryson talking about his new book due out in autumn – this time the body is treated to the inimitable Bryson style and I can’t wait. What did this have to do with our Charity you ask? Well, Bill has not only supported the Charity directly but he is also the inspiration behind a larger than life epic journey undertaken by some generous and brave people to walk from Cape Wrath to Bognor Regis in 30 days. They raised a very large amount of money for Royal Brompton.

We welcomed a great many of the donors who supported the walk – and a few of the walkers – including pioneer walker, Kate Hedges. Thank you to all who gave so generously and thank you to Bill – for being a brilliant guest and host, and speaker, and supporter…. Not to mention one of the best writers anywhere on the globe. It’s impossible to think of your books, Bill, without remembering pivotal paragraphs, nuggets of information and of course raising a smile.

Never a Charity to miss an opportunity with so many wonderful generous people in the room, Dr Su Madge gave a brilliant update on our pioneering Cystic Fibrosis appeal which is transforming the lives of a great many of people with this life-long condition. Thank you Su – you and your team have come a long way with this project and we can't wait to see more. To read about this ambition, please take a peek here.

Now one thing I am NOT going to do, is the skydive on 9 June. But I am deeply grateful to those of you who are going to do this…. And raise funds for our Charity to support our two world class hospitals. I gather it is very safe, and also very exhilarating, and how or why else would you jump out of a plane if you were not to do it for a worthy cause. Have you ever considered doing this? If yes, now’s your chance. Sign up here and make a huge difference both to your life and the lives of hundreds, probably thousands of patients with your sponsorship.
