On the 9th September, I will be cycling from Ruben’s Hotel, London to San Sebastian, Spain to raise money and awareness for Ruben’s Fund, a charity close to my heart.

The ride is in memory of my son Ruben who passed away on the 12th January 2022 at three and a half months old, to Cardiomyopathy, as a result of a rare genetic condition - GACI.
Since losing Ruben, Charlotte and I have supported the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital charity with setting up Ruben’s Fund which will fund research into the genetic diagnosis of cardiomyopathy in children. We have pledged to raise £200,000.00 to support a dedicated research project, and so far, we have raised £120,000.00 towards our goal.

We have arranged many different fundraising initiatives since setting up the fund on 12 March 2022, however, now is the time for me to complete a challenge.

This year would have been Ruben’s 2nd Birthday. To honour his memory, I will be to cycling from Ruben’s Hotel to San Sebastian, a gruelling 1019km route, which connects my two boys, Ruben and Sebastian. This journey has a lot of meaning and emotion behind it, and it will cover seven stops on route to Spain. I am hoping to complete it within 8 days, unsupported.

The plan is to bike pack the whole route unassisted with various sections joined by fellow fundraisers. The sections are:
1. Ruben’s Hotel, London – Portsmouth Harbour
2. Saint - Marlo – Rennes
3. Rennes – Nantes
4. Nantes – La Rochelle
5. La Rochelle - Bordeaux
6. Bordeaux – Hossegor
7. Hossegor – San Sebastian
