Our relationship with Harefield began almost 20 years ago. Our Beloved Dad RIP fitted with an ICD (box) formed friendships all over Oak & Acorn, and we accompanied him on many occasions.

Team Shane O'Neill Winners 2019

15 years ago Kev had an ICD box fitted and more recently his heart became severely impaired, he was in a critical condition on arrival.  Within days he was fitted with a mechanical heart and remained in ITU sedated and ventilated whilst his body adjusted.

The Intensive care team was amazingly supportive and having 1-2-1 care 24hrs a day completely reassured us.

When the phone call came that Tuesday that a donor's heart was in Harefield and Kevin was going to go into the theatre to receive it, I sobbed. Hope, fear, anticipation, joy, a miracle, but also for the loss of somebody else's loved one. This has been such a tumultuous journey for us all exciting yet confusing situations almost daily.

Kev got back to Rowan Ward and was progressing really well until he had a bad fall in July, which landed him back into the capable and safe hands of intensive care for another 3 weeks.

He is making steady progress on Rowan now, the Physio team is superb in encouraging him to reach his goals. Every single member of the staff and nursing team is wonderful caring people.

A new team  "Family Liaison Team" which exists to bridge the gap between consultants and the family has truly helped us with this rollercoaster.  We have experienced so many shining stars with the Harefield staff and we cannot thank you enough.

Kevin & I, on top of inherited dilated cardiomyopathy, carry a Gene TTNtv variant which the inherited genetic clinic has discovered in our family tree, it now gives us the reassurance, that we can screen our children at Harefield.

We owe so much to this incredible hospital and hope you can join us on the day.

Join us for the 40th Annual Harefield Fun Run and Family Day, Sun 10 September 2023

Meet us for a special celebration at Harefield Hospital with a 5 k or 10 k walk or run and family picnic in the grounds.  Our dream would be to win this cup for Kev to give something back for his Amazing Donor Heart Transplant!

Kev was admitted to Harefield on 2nd May 2023 with heart failure, he has spent weeks in intensive care and is now safely back on a transplant ward recovering. The compassion and care he has been shown by staff has been monumental in his recovery
