Our life-saving Harefield Transplant Appeal now aims to raise £200,000 after smashing £100,000 target thanks to your support.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and fundraisers we have been able to surpass our initial £100,000 set for the 2019/20 period. Through some amazing challenges, kind donations and attending our events the appeal hit its goal in record time for the Charity.

We’re delighted to commit to an additional £100,000 to support Harefield’s pioneering transplant programme by funding even more Organ Care Systems.

About the Appeal

The Harefield Transplant Appeal funds innovative technology, Organs Care Systems, which are now used for all transplants at Harefield Hospital. The Organ Care System (OCS) keeps donated heart and lungs functioning outside of human body making them viable for up to four times longer than the traditional on-ice method. In turn, donated organs can come from further away and our transplant team can have more time to prepare for a life-saving surgery. They are also able to take on more complicated cases as well as use organs that would not be viable without the OCS.

This technology is not funded by the NHS, so we are proud to be involved with this project. We couldn’t do it without your support and thanks to you, more people like Dave will receive a transplant.

Dave says,

“With the use of the Organ Care Systems, not only did my donor heart arrive in time, but also in the best condition possible for transplant. Not all donated hearts can be used and these systems are helping ensure that “the gift” is viable for transplant, thus saving more lives.”
