We were deeply saddened to hear that Dame Professor Margaret Turner-Warwick, who was a leading figure in respiratory medicine and worked at Royal Brompton Hospital for more than 20 years, has died aged 92.

Dame Turner-Warwick, who worked as both an academic and clinician, has been praised for bringing respiratory medicine to the fore at a time when research into lung disease was still relatively under-developed.

In 1989, she became the first woman President of the Royal College of Physicians in its 400 years.

Donations in memory of Dame Professor Margaret Warwick are gratefully received. The family has requested that these go towards a ground-breaking research programme into the clinical and physiological effects of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.
