Rock legend and Charity ambassador Shakin’ Stevens kicked off our in-person events for 2021

On June 25, 19 teams of golfers and 30 spectators came down to Denham Golf Club for our first in-person event in over 18 months. Participants included John Lodge of The Moody Blues, and Miles Dalby, consultant cardiologist at Harefield Hospital.

Following a welcome from Miles Dalby and some golf tips from Mark Lawrie, Denham Golf Club's pro, our golfers tee’d off on the 18 hole course, all vying for a coveted golf day trophy.

Andrew Watson, Charity supporter and patient, said "Thank you so much for organising the golf day. I thought that it went really well, and all the Watto’s Wedges had a fab time." Golfer Martyn Ward will be working on his technique ahead of 2022, he said “Thanks, another great day, and well done to everyone who worked on it. Put me down for next year, hopefully I’ll play better next time.”

We are thrilled to announce the winners are:

  • 1st place – The Ornithologists
  • 2nd place – Denham Sharks
  • 3rd place – VINCI
  • Nearest to the pin – Regitta Gommersall
  • Longest Drive – Men – Stirling Higley
  • Longest drive – Ladies – Sue Goodliffe
  • Closest to the flag – Andy Parry

One of our winners of 'Beat the Pro' on the 5th hole is Kings Arms landlord – John Mullane, who has also been a tremendous support to Harefield Hospital throughout the pandemic.

Following the golf, our participants sat down to a delicious three-course meal provided by Denham Golf Club with entertainment including a comedy set and close-up magic from Steve Jones. We want to extend our warmest thanks to sponsors Martin Baker and the Metro Golf Centre, and to the Co-op in Harefield and Denham along with Julie and her member pioneers for providing snacks and refreshments at the course’s halfway house.

Congratulations to all the winners, thank you to everyone who took part,  and a huge thank you, of course, to Shakin’ Stevens for his ongoing support.

We would also like to extend our thanks to all the hole and programme sponsors along with all the additional generous support given for our raffle which raised just over £2,000.

The golf day raised £26,000 toward our Covid-19 Relief Fund and will provide Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals with equipment and projects needed to care for patients and staff in the pandemic.
