Richard Bowyer, Chief Executive of Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity, said:

The Heart of the Community Partnership is an incredible opportunity to save lives and improve the heart health of communities in West London. Everyone at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity is excited to partner with Brentford FC and other charities who are passionate about heart health, to change the game for people threatened by heart disease.

What is our ambition?

Cardiovascular disease affects us all and together we want to make a big impact. Every five minutes someone is admitted to a UK hospital due to a heart attack.

Heart and circulatory diseases cause around a quarter of all deaths in the UK, which is one death every three minutes. 7.6m people are affected by cardiac health in the UK and this is not just the middle-aged and elderly; every week at least 12 people aged under 35 die from an undiagnosed heart condition. We want to change this.

What are we doing?

Together we will be changing the game for those at risk of heart disease. Through raising awareness, encouraging exercise, promoting screenings, funding research and supporting families affected by cardiac conditions we will make a difference in fighting one of the UK’s biggest killers.

One area of focus will be increasing the amount of training available for CPR. The overall survival rate in the UK for a cardiac arrest, outside a hospital, is less than 1 in 10. Performing CPR can more than double the chances of survival in some cases. Our ambition is to ensure that everyone has the skills to save a life.
