Help us change NHS England’s mind on closing life-saving congenital heart disease services at Royal Brompton

Royal Brompton has a superb track record of treating and caring for vulnerable patients with congenital heart conditions. That’s why NHS England’s plan to close congenital heart disease (CHD) services at Royal Brompton Hospital is illogical.

We need your help and support to tell our politicians just how disastrous it would be if CHD services were no longer available at Royal Brompton. The proposal to decommission this vital service puts patients’ lives at risk. These services take in patients from infancy, through childhood and right through adulthood, too.

What you need to know

NHS England’s plans are nothing to do with the quality of care at Royal Brompton. Official data shows that we are one of the largest, safest and most effective CHD centres in the UK. We believe these plans do not make sense and are not in the best interests of our patients. The Trust’s governors and board strongly oppose the plans. They do not think the changes will improve patient care in any way. We are working with NHS England to develop more sensible proposals.

However, we can’t do this without you, our supporters.

How you can help

WRITE TO YOUR MP

On 15 November, Victoria Borwick, MP, is chairing a meeting for MPs and Lords in the House of Commons during which a team from Royal Brompton Hospital will present our opposition to NHS England’s irresponsible plans for our vital CHD services. We would like to ensure that as many local MPs as possible are informed on the situation, and how it may affect their constituents, before this meeting.

Some MPs have acted already, but others will be stirred into action by their constituents – YOU!

If you are happy with your care at Royal Brompton, and don’t want to move to another hospital, you can write to your MP and ask him/her to contact Jeremy Hunt suggesting he intervenes.

You can find out who your MP is here.
