Shakin’ Stevens hosted friends of Harefield Hospital for a special 10th anniversary golf day to help critically ill patients

Last Thursday 15 June, supporters of Harefield Hospital headed down to Denham Golf Club for the 10th Annual Shakin’ Steven’s Golf Day. The sun shone brilliantly all day and provided perfect conditions for the 18 teams to be outside and enjoying Denham Golf Club’s magnificent course.

A range of trophies were up for grabs by the teams, which included musical celebrities. One of whom was of course our very own rock legend and host Shakin’ Stevens as well as, former president of the world renown Universal Music, Brian Berg, and the wonderful Pete Langford, founding member and writer for The Barron Knights. Alongside the celebrity teams were the brilliant clinicians from Harefield Hospital, as well as many of our fantastic Charity supporters.

After registering all the teams and grabbing some morning refreshments amidst a buzz of conversation in the courtyard, there was a brief introduction from Harefield’s consultant cardiologist Dr Miles Dalby, who expressed to everyone the importance of the Shakin’ Stevens Golf Day.

After a close competition, we’re excited to announce this year’s winners were:

  • 1st place – The Ornithologists
  • 2nd place – Berko Boys
  • 3rd place – The Hack Daddies
  • Nearest to the Pin (Ladies) - Barbara Francis - Par Tee Girls
  • Nearest to the Pin (Men) – Tony Wood – Hack Daddies
  • Longest Drive (Ladies) – Debbie Parrish - Par Tee Girls
  • Longest Drive (Men) – Louis Richards – Hack Daddies
  • Closest to the Flag – Andy Parry – Denham Sharks

Andrew Watson from Watto’s Wedges said: “The Charity team organised yet another fantastic not-to-be-missed golf day. The setting is serene, the course charming, the competition captivating, the dinner delicious and the atmosphere and camaraderie between the golfers and the enthusiastic welcoming charity team is wonderful. It’s becoming a real highlight of the summer.”

To celebrate the end of the day, guests were treated to a delicious three course meal whilst being entertained with the fabulous magic of Steven Jones, a master of sleight of hand and valued supporter of the Charity. A raffle was also held with fabulous prizes donated from our generous supporters including Tesco Rickmansworth, Clarins, Farnham Common Nurseries and many more.

We also had a very special auction item, a signed David O'Leary's shirt as part of the Arsenal's Legend Team. Congratulations to Patrick Lott from T Lott Ltd, who placed the highest bid of £800. A special thanks to John Mullane for generously donating this one-of-a-kind prize.

Everyone at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity would like to say a very special thank you to Shakin’ Stevens for hosting a brilliant Golf Day, and to the incredible Sue Davies for her help in making all this life saving fundraising possible. The Shakin’ Stevens 10th Annual Golf Day raised just over £21,000 for the Harefield Haemodialysis appeal, which will be used to purchase dialysis equipment to help the most severely ill patients at Harefield Hospital.
