One of the many joys of this extraordinary job that I have is attending remarkable events. Over the years I have enjoyed royal palaces, livery halls, the guildhall and our very own St Luke’s Church Chelsea and St Mary’s Church Harefield. So it was with some trepidation that I connected to watch our online Carol Concert yesterday evening – wondering how it would be if I was not actually there.

But I was joined by my husband, son and his girlfriend and we were transported not just to St Luke’s, and not just to St Mary’s, but to Harefield School and to the hearts of our Singing for Breathing patient choir – and even Strictly’s Lance Ellington’s home.

It was a wonderful event and although the magic was not the same as if we had been in Church, there was still magic, but just different magic, provided by our wonderful readers and the amazing music from Fortis Voices. Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie took us to Whoville – via Dr Seus’s Grinch, and Dame Sian Phillips brought to life her reading of the wonderful St John passage as brilliantly as I knew she would. And at the end ... Sam’s story ... I can’t say more, but it is just something I will carry with me forever.

Once again Savills generously sponsored our Carol Concert, and Noel read beautifully as did our very own Steven Pursey. Thank you to Reverends Brian Leathard and Martin Davies for hosting us in their Churches, even if we could not be there in person.

All funds raised will help us help our amazing hospitals, and they in turn will treat their patients with world class care and expertise. Together, we will be there for them.
