This is Doug Forbes

'In August 2013, at the age of 31, I had a double-lung transplant at Harefield as a result of my Cystic Fibrosis, which meant that my lungs had deteriorated to the extent that I was on oxygen 24 hours a day.

Harefield were amazing, helping me through what was quite a long recovery period, as I was an in-patient for four months after my initial surgery, going back for regular clinic check-ups after I had been discharged. I had a lot of post-operative pain to deal with, which only subsided after about 18 months of treatment.

Now I am a committee member for the Harefield Transplant Club, but I also wanted to raise money and awareness for the hospital’s own charity. In April, my wife and I jumped out of an aeroplane (with parachutes!), raising over £1,000 for the hospital. It was an amazing experience – one that would never have been possible without the dedication of the hospital staff, nor without my donor.

I am incredibly grateful to be well at the time of writing this, and to be so lucky in the care that I have received from Harefield. I hope to be visiting the hospital for many years to come!'
