This is Chris

When Chris' sister Joanne returned to health following a terrifying bout of swine flue, he felt he wanted to do something to give back. So, in 2016, Chris ran the Brighton Marathon for our hospitals.

“The crowd and volunteers were amazing, cheering everyone on all the way. When it got tough I thought about why I was running and how no one gave up on my sister when she was desperately ill. The marathon weekend was amazing and one of the best things I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. The sense of achievement I got from getting round will stay with me forever, made even more special by raising so much for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity.

To raise the amount I did, I set up a JustGiving page as soon as I signed up for the marathon, giving me almost a year to raise money. I used social media sites to share the link to my page and text donation number on a regular basis. I got friends and family involved as well by asking them to share my page, and some even got permission to email it to their colleagues and collected sponsorship from friends at work. I found involving more people really made a huge difference. Approximately 50% of the funds I raised came from companies and people I haven’t even met! Along with help from friends and family, I managed to raise £4,711.03 including Gift Aid for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity.”

Chris' sister was cared for on Harefield's Intensive Care Unit. Can you help us extend it by six bedrooms to allow for an additional 250 patients like Joanne each year? Visit our Building for Brighter Futures appeal page to learn more or to donate today. Thank you.
