This is Robert Clayton, handing over a substantial cheque to our Community & Events Fundraising Manager at Harefield Hospital, Joe Dunster.

After being treated at Harefield Hospital, Robert decided to use his appointment as captain of his local golf club as an opportunity to give something back.

"When I was appointed men's captain for 2016 at Mill Green Golf Club, it was an easy decision to select my chosen charity for the year. I had benefited from Harefield's expertise (a special thanks to Dr Vias Markides and Dr Shouvik Haldar), so it was personally satisfying to me to acknowledge this by supporting Harefield Hospital.

I held a number of fundraising events throughout the year including guessing competitions and collections. Captains' Day is the main fundraising event and this alone raised £2,749 towards the final total of £7,182, thanks to the fantastic support from the members who took on various golfing challenges and attended the evening event.

There was also a separate charity day, a quiz night, various raffles, income from charity bunkers and a well supported Captain/Pro series of challenge matches, which raised a good sum. 15 local Hertfordshire clubs supported my efforts by supplying me with 4 ball vouchers for their clubs (which we reciprocated for their captains), which I then used as auction and raffle items.

To have raised £7,182 far exceeds my initial expectations. I found the responsibility of raising money for a charity extremely uplifting and albeit in a small way, I am very happy to have contributed to a very worthy cause."

Thank you to Robert for all of his fantastic work!
